As reported almost two weeks ago, 2011 seems like it is going to be a huge year for the folks at E.P. Carrillo with five planned releases for the calendar year.   One of the big launches planned is for a Connecticut wrapper E.P. Carrillo – this is being branded the E.P. Carrillo New Wave Connecticut.  This is expected to hit the shelves by end of March/early April, 2011 timeframe

This cigar is being targeted at the mild to medium strength cigar enthusiast, so it is a great way for E.P. Carrillo to expand its customer base.   I’m hearing the cigars will have some good body with notes of cream, nut, sweetness, spice, and even some hints of coffee.

One big change is the branding.   You can see the traditional EPC black background on the band has been replaced with white.  Gold lettering now spells out the Carrillo name.

The blend will be comprised as follows:
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Dominican, Nicaraguan

There are expected to be four vitolas with thinner ring gauges being targeted:
Brillantes: 5 x 50
Divinos: 6 x 52
Gran Via:  7 x 49
Stellas: 5 1/8 x 42

Finally this cigar is expected to fall in the “value priced” sweet spot for retailers of around $5.00 – $7.00.   Stay tuned for more information on this cigar as I have the E.P. Carrillo New Wave Connecticut in my possession and will provide a detailed assessment soon.

As always, if there are corrections to be made, please let me know.
