#12: Rocky Patel Fifty

This epic encounter brings us to a second entry in the 2011 Cigar of the Year countdown by Rocky Patel Premium Cigars.   Rocky Patel has had several cigars launched in 2011, but there is no doubt that this one was the most anticipated of all of the cigars by Patel.

Coming in at #12 is the Rocky Patel Fifty.  This cigar was been in the works for some time and is coinciding with
Rocky Patel’s 50 birthday – which occurred earlier this year.  The  making of these
cigars were a four year body of work involving tobacco that has been
aged for eight years.  This is intended as an limited run and ultra-premium line for Rocky
Patel.  There will be only 2000 boxes of each vitola produced. It carries a higher price point of $19 to $22 SRP.   I do not factor price into a cigar’s assessment or final position in the Top 30.  The bottom line is that this a very good cigar.

For the most part, the Rocky Patel Fifty is a medium to full strength cigar that has full-bodied flavors.  The flavor profile is highly complex featuring an incredible array of flavor notes along the way.  These notes include: cocoa, chocolate, leather, orange, citrus, pepper, baker’s spice, wood, and farm notes.  Many of these flavors are in the first third of the cigar – creating a very exotic flavor profile.  The second half has a less exotic flavor profile and can be considered more “old school”.   Burn and draw are outstanding.
