#8 La Flor Dominicana Oro Maduro

The Elite 8 begins for our 2012 Cigar of the Year countdown and coming it at #8 is the La Flor Dominicana Oro Maduro.   The La Flor Dominicana Oro line was launched at the 2012 IPCPR in two blends, a natural and maduro.  It is the Oro Maduro that captured our attention at the trade show, and it has consistently performed since that point.

The La Flor Dominicana Oro Maduro marks the second appearance on the 2012 Cigar of the Year Countdown for La Flor Dominicana.  This continues what has been a very solid year for Litto Gomez’s LFD company.

The LFD Oro line uses a Nicaraguan wrapper over Dominican binder and filler.  The Nicaraguan wrapper is similar to what is used on the LFD Coronado blend, but with a higher priming.  For the Oro Maduro, the wrapper is put through a maduro curing process.   The end result is a complex flavor profile that has plenty of flavor transitions.   The flavors derived along the way are coffee, dried fruit, leather, cream, citrus, and chocolate.  This is a full strength, full-bodied smoke in which both attributes balance each other very well.  While you will really feel the strength of this cigar by the midway point, it is never at the sacrifice of Oro Maduro’s flavor.  The Oro Maduro is also a well constructed cigar with a great burn and draw.
