The new Blend D-042 is this year’s
addition to the
Torano Family’s celebrated Vault line of premium
cigars

As we noted a few weeks ago, Torano Family Cigars will be releasing its second “Blend from the Vault”.   This cigar will be called “Blend D-042”.   The cigar will be launched at the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show in July, and will hit retailer shelves this August. Information on this cigar was announced today via a press release from Torano Family Cigars.

The “Blends from the Vault” series was launched in 2011 with the release of the Torano Vault A-008.  When the series was launched, Torano Family Cigars explained the series as:

Blends from the Vault originate from the family’s cigar “blend book” which was started by Carlos Torano, Sr. in 1982.  The blend book, which is now almost 30 years old, has a record of every blend concept the Torano family has ever worked on. The tobacco stained pages of this book include blends that could only come from a family with the history, knowledge and tobacco experience of the Torano family. Amongst the blends recorded are many which the family has released over the years, together with some blends which were deemed to have tremendous potential, but fell short of the family’s high expectations. This book has come to symbolize the Torano’s blending expertise, creativity, and is now securely stored in a safety deposit box in a bank vault.

The Vault D-042 is actually a modification to the original D-042 Torano blend in the Torano blend book.   This approach is similar to what was done for the original Torano Vault A-008 blend.

My father and I discovered a rare Pennsylvania leaf, while on a 1998 tobacco trip.  Extensive experimentation revealed it to be an excellent enhancement to the filler tobaccos in Blend D-042, which we recorded in the blend book in 2004.  The Pennsylvania tobacco’s flavor perfectly balanced the Nicaraguan filler combination.  The original blend had a Sumatra Ecuadorian wrapper which was a popular choice at the time and widely available. In making some small adjustments to the original blend, we added a Habano Ecuadorian wrapper and the result was impressive. Blend D-042 is a powerful smoke, but with long and lingering sweet spice notes, it is very rounded and flavorful.  It’s a fitting addition to our Vault line, complementing our runaway top-seller and widely distributed Vault Blend A-008.”

The cigar is being launched in four sizes (Robusto, Toro, Torpedo, and 6 x 60).  The SRP will range from $7.20 to $8.50.

The banding will feature a primary band that is metallic red and gold.  There will be a footer band indicating “Blend D-042”.
