“With Casa Fernandez, they seem to hit on all cylinders when it comes to working with this (San Andres Maduro) wrapper. They consistently find a way to get the most out of this wrapper without overwhelming the blend.”

Coming in at #22 on the 2013 Cigar of the Year countdown is the Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva Maduro. This cigar added a maduro offering into Casa Fernandez’s Miami Reserva line. This is also a cigar made out of Casa Fernandez’s Miami, Florida-based factory.

The Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva Maduro gives Casa Fernandez their first appearance on one of our Cigar of the Year countdowns.  It marks the second San Andres Maduro wrapper entry on the countdown, and the fifth maduro entry overall.

The original Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva is famous for utilizing the high-priming medio tiempo Aganorsa farm tobacco in the blend.  Now the Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva Maduro follows suit, but this time with a San Andres Maduro wrapper.

I’ve been critical of San Andres wrapper because I think it can overwhelm a blend, but Casa Fernandez seems to find a way to complement this wrapper with the other tobaccos in the cigar.  This cigar is a great example how well the San Andres wrapper works. The Casa Fernandez Miami Maduro provides notes of sweet chocolate, leather, citrus, earth and pepper.  The cigar delivers a full-bodied smoke countered by medium to full strength
