“Farkas definitely kept the element of surprise going because nobody knew what the cigar even looked like until it appeared on retailer shelves. In this case, this was a cigar worth the wait.”

#29 Viaje Full Moon 2013

Coming in at #29 is a new small batch blend released by Viaje this year – the Viaje Full Moon.

The Viaje Full Moon marks the fourth consecutive year that Viaje has made the countdown.  It also becomes the first limited, small batch of 2013 to be selected for the countdown.  Finally this is the second Nicaraguan puro to make the 2013 countdown.

Viaje president Andre Farkas hinted at a seasonal themed release for Halloween to go along with his Skull and Bones releases.  He kept the details under wraps under just before shipping, and even then photos of the cigar itself weren’t released until retailers received shipment.  The element of surprise raised the bar for this release and it paid off well here.

Viaje has definitely been leaning toward some larger ring gauge releases in the past year and the Full Moon was released in a hefty 5 x 58 frontmark.  This blend seemed to work well in the big ring gauge well here. The cigar delivered some excellent flavors of natural tobacco, pepper, orange citrus and wood.  While most Viaje cigars are known for their powerhouse reputation, this cigar was a bit of a (but a not unheard of) departure of in that it was medium in strength.  While the flavors were full-bodied, this also was not a spice bomb.
