Robert Caldwell was a special guest on Episode 138 of Stogie Geeks and confirmed “The Last Tsar”, the company’s first limited edition cigar will be shipping on Monday May 5th.  This is a cigar that has been referred to as “Nothing You Ever Heard Of”.

The Last Tsar is being limited to a list of 49 retailers. A decision was made to select those retailers who were with Caldwell Cigars from the beginning and have remained with them.

The Last Tsar is being produced at Tabacalera William Ventura in Tamboril, Dominican Republic. The cigar itself is a Belicoso that Caldwell described to us as “Full in body, creamy smooth, rich as hell – and salty”. It uses the same wrapper leaf as Eastern Standard which called Arapiraca Connecticut Shade Hybrid Maduro. The wrapper was fermented longer and processed a little differently. The wrapper was difficult to work with. As Caldwell explained using, “It was a pain in the ass to make, we lost a ton of tobacco when making it because it was more of an experiment than anything to use that wrapper in that way.”

The blend also includes another tobacco called Carbonell which Caldwell describes as a “really cool tobacco that has incensy aroma to it.”

The Last Tsar will be released in ten count boxes. A total production of 500 boxes is being shipped with the May 2015 shipment. The plan is for the limited edition line to be released twice a year. It’s possible the blend will rotate from shipment to shipment.

Caldwell also mentioned he is collaborating with another factory in “Central America” that will make its debut at the 2015 IPCPR Trade Show. Toro. Caldwell said the intent of this project is to reach the non-Dominican cigar smoker. It will be released in three sizes – Robusto, Toro, and 6 x 60 in 20 count boxes.
