If you have followed Diamond Crown cigars, you know that the Black Diamond has been a project in the works for almost three years. This past week, J.C. Newman Cigar Company, who produces the Diamond Crown brand announced some details to Cigar Aficionado on this long-awaited project. As for the rollout, the cigar is expected to be showcased at the 2016 IPCPR Trade Show in Las Vegas.

Eric Newman, President of J.C. Newman Cigar Company informed Cigar Aficionado that the binder and filler features tobacco from the Fuente family’s Chateau de la Fuente (the Fuentes make the Diamond Crown line for the Newmans). Newman also said the wrapper is a Sun Grown Connecticut that was aged for 8 years and underwent extended fermentation.

Black Diamond will be released in three sizes: Radiant (4 1/2 x 54), Emerald (6 x 52), and Marquise (5 1/2 x 56). Each of the three sizes will be packaged in black lacquered humidor twenty count boxes. Pricing is set at $17.00 to $20.00 per cigar

In 2013, there had been plans for the Diamond Crown Maduro to rebranded as Black Diamond. Instead, this developed into a full blown project by which the Newmans solicited input from consumers and retailers.  The cigar was handed out at the 2015 IPCPR Trade Show in New Orleans, but it didn’t ship. J.C. Newman informed Cigar Aficionado that the blend passed out at last year’s IPCPR is the same blend as this year.
