At this year’s IPCPR Trade Show, Jochy Blanco’s La Galera brand unveiled a new San Andres wrapped La Galera Maduro and the new La Galera 1936 Box Pressed. However, Blanco had one more cigar to showcase, and this one is a limited edition that is a San Andres Maduro in a box-pressed. The cigar is called the La Galera 80th Anniversary Box Pressed Limited Edition, and it commemorates 80 years of Blanco’s Tabacalera Palma factory operation in business.
The La Galera 80th Anniversary Box Pressed Limited Edition comes in a very unique box that resembles a cigar mold. In the box are 14 cigars in two different vitolas: 7 of the cigars are a 6 1/8 x 52 torpedo known as Cortador while the other seven are a 6 x 54 Toro known as El Lector. Production is being limited to 4,000 cigars. Inside the boxes, there is a decal where the boxes are numbered and contain the signatures of Blanco, the roller, and the factory supervisor.
Complementing the San Andres wrapper, the La Galera 80th Anniversary Box Pressed utilizes Dominican tobaccos from Blanco’s Potrero farm in the Dominican Republic for the binder and filler.
In addition to the 80th Anniversary Box Pressed Limited Edition, the La Galera 1936 Box Pressed also pays homage to the 80 year anniversary of Tabacalera Palma as it as 1936 when the operation opened.
It was late last year when Blanco added the title of brand owner in addition to being a factory owner and grower. This occurred when he acquired IndianHead Cigars – a portfolio of value-priced cigars. Concurrently, Blanco created La Galera, an all new brand which would fill the role of IndianHead’s premium cigar offerings.
