#29 for 2011: Humo Jaguar by Miami Cigars

It’s time for a the second Epic Encounter of Cigars of 2011 – the 2011 Cigar of the Year countdown continues.

Coming in at #29 is the Humo Jaguar by Miami Cigars.   While Ecuadorian Connecticut cigars were a theme of 2011, there was another theme that got completely unnoticed – the resurgence of Honduran cigar blends.   The past few years has seen the surge of Nicaraguan tobaccos, but Honduran tobacco has been around for a while and has made for some good cigars.  This year, I’ve seen many manufacturers turn back to Honduran tobacco – and get some good blends.  The Humo Jaguar is a prime example of this.

The Humo Jaguar is an all-Honduran puro.  The Humo Jaguar cigar derives its name from the cigar festival in Honduras that also has the same name.   Each year various cigar makers enter a best in show competition.  It turns out that a blend by Nestor Plasencia won the 2011 competition and as a result this blend is now being distributed by Miami Cigars.

The Humo Jaguar is a nice full strength cigar that has mostly medium to full-bodied flavors (with a full-bodied kick at the end). The flavor profile provides an interesting mix of oak, pepper, and coffee.  It also features subtle notes of hickory and mesquite throughout the smoke.   The Humo Jaguar provided a very old-school feel to it.
