#25: Timeless Collection by Nat Sherman

Coming in at the #25 Cigar in the 2012 Cigar of the Year Countdown is the Timeless Collection by Nat Sherman. This is the Dominican-made version of the cigar that was launched at the beginning of 2012 (there would be a Nicaraguan puro version that would follow).  The Timeless Collection marked the first release by Nat Sherman since Michael Herklots joined the company as executive director of retail and brand development.

The Timeless Collection marks the first time that Nat Sherman has landed a cigar in our Cigar of the Year countdown series.   This cigar was developed in collaboration with the Quesada family of MATASA.  This is also the Quesadas’ first blend on the 2012 Cigar of the Year countdown.  This was one of the first new cigar blends we reviewed in the 2012 cigar year (that for us began the day after Thanksgiving 2011)

At the 2011 IPCPR Trade Show, rather than launch a cigar, Nat Sherman conducted extensive market research.  This was done to make sure they targeted the blend to the right market segment. Nat Sherman solicited detailed feedback from retailers and consumers on everything from the blend, packaging, and pricing.

The flavor profile delivers a notes of coffee, cocoa, lemon citrus, pepper, nut, and oak.  We found the notes varied in body from the pre-release to the production cigar.  For example, while the flavor notes were medium-bodied on the pre-release Churchill sample, the Hermoso delivered flavors closer to full-bodied.  The flavors are complemented by a perfect amount of medium strength.  It gets high marks in terms of its burn and draw.
