Late last year, Davidoff announced the Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed line. As the name indicates, it is a box-pressed line extension to its Davidoff Nicaragua line. These cigars are the first box-pressed cigars to carry the Davidoff name. Like the original Davidoff Nicaragua, the cigar is a Nicaraguan puro, but with a slightly different blend.  Plans are for the Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed to make its U.S. debut in March, 2016 with a worldwide release by the summer of 2016.

The blend is described as a more intense as well as bolder and spicier. This was achieved by making some modifications to the original blend. For starters, the wrapper of the box-pressed is a Nicaraguan Habana Oscura as opposed to the Nicaragua Habana Rosado wrapper on the base line. Davidoff says the Oscuro wrapper helps to intensify the flavors. In addition, the Esteli Visus founded in the filler of the base line was upgraded to a Ligero priming. Davidoff says that this priming change gives the cigar additional spice, strength, and an increased stimulation to the bitter area.  The use of Condega leaves is said to sweetness to the bitter-sweet palate stimulation.

In a press release announcing details of the Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed Charles Awad, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Innovation at Oettinger Davidoff AG said: “Davidoff’s mission is to open the aficionado’s world by encouraging them to venture beyond the familiar, their go-to cigars and origins, and explore new ways to fill their time beautifully. After the huge success of Davidoff Nicaragua, our master blender crafted these superb and more intense Nicaraguan Puros, in a box pressed format, to spice up the aficionados’ adventurous exploration and take them on a new and more extreme flavour journey.”

The cigars area available in two sizes – a Robusto box press and a Toro box pressed. Each size will be available in twelve count boxes or four count packs.
