Review: Quesada Reserva Privada Oscuro Toro
Brand Appearances on Countdown: 4 (201120142015, 2016)

Coming in at #28 is the Quesada Reserva Privada Oscuro Toro. This cigar is a follow-up to 2015’s Quesada Reserva Privada.

In 2015, Quesada Cigars launched a cigar known as the Quesada Reserva Privada, a cigar that landed #5 on last year’s Countdown. The Reserva Privada is a limited production, ultra-premium offering that features Dominican San Vincente tobacco set aside from a 1997 crop covered with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. It is that 1997 tobacco that made the Quesada Reserva Privada a special cigar. For 2016, an extension to the Reserva Privada line was introduced, but this one replaced the Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper with a Connecticut Broadleaf. The result is the Quesada Reserva Privada Oscuro.

The Quesada Reserva Privada Oscuro Toro lands Quesada Cigars on the Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year Countdown for the fourth time, including the last three years in a row. It becomes the second cigar from the Quesada Cigars factory to land on the Countdown joining the Imperia Islero Pita by MLB Cigar Ventures.

This is going to deliver notes of cocoa powder, earth, white pepper, and hay. I actually found the Oscuro to be a milder offering than its Connecticut Shade counterpart. In the first half, it’s going to start out mild to medium for strength and body. By the second half, both attributes kick up to medium territory.

It’s another great addition to the Quesada Cigars’ portfolio – and one that also continues to get even better with age.
