Agile Cigar Reviews are cigar assessments where we use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are re-scoring or giving a score for the first time. It might be a blend we are looking at in a different size. Today we look at RoMa Craft Tobac CroMagnon in the Timeline size. This is a cigar we last assessed back in October 2016 in the Firecracker size.

RoMa Craft Tobac CroMagnon Timeline

Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Cameroon
Filler: Nicaraguan: Estelí, Condega, and a Ligero leaf from Pueblo Nuevo (a small farm north of Esteli on the Honduran border)
Country of Origin: Nicaragua (Nica Sueno)
Timeline: 6 1/4 x 50

In 2016, Roma Craft Tobac celebrated five years in business. To commemorate the milestone, the company went back to its first brand, CroMagnon, and released a special package known as the CroMagnon Monolith. The Monolith consists of a set of CroMagnon branded accessories by Xikar, packaged with a special limited version of the CroMagnon known as the Timeline. The Timeline introduced a 6 1/4 x 50 vitola into the line with a “109” cap.  The “109” cap has its origins in Cuba where it is a cap that is flat with a short taper leading to it.

The accessories included in the Monolith package would be a precursor of things to follow. Earlier this year, RoMa Craft Tobac and Xikar announced a long-term partnership agreement. Under this agreement, Xikar would produce a series of cutters, lighters, travel cases, mobile ashtrays and other accessories across several of RoMa Craft Tobac’s brands.

As for the Timeline, the blend features the same components found across the majority of the CroMagnon branded cigars: a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Cameroon binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

Flavor-wise, I found the CroMagnon Timeline to be consistent with what I have come to expect from the CroMagnon blend. it delivers a nice mix of coffee, earth, black pepper, and what I term “maduro sweetness” (a natural tobacco note with some dried fruit sweetness). The first half of the Timeline had more of an emphasis on the maduro sweetness and coffee notes while the second half had more of the earthy and peppery notes that were prominent.

The Timeline started out as a medium to full cigar in terms of strength and body and progressed nicely to full in the second half. Both the strength and body balanced each other nicely with neither overshadowing the other.

One thing that really impresses me about CroMagnon is how versatile this blend is when it comes to different sizes. RoMa Craft Tobac has been very successful getting this to work from a small 3 1/2 x 50 vitola with the Firecracker to the massive 10 x 133 1/3 Femur size. The constant is the blend delivers a wonderful representation of a Connecticut Broadleaf blend and the Timeline vitola continues this excellent track record.
