Review: Rancho Luna Maduro Robusto by JRE Tobacco Company (4/25/17)
Appearances on Countdown (By Year/Brand): 2 (2016, 2017)

Coming in at #27 is the Rancho Luna Maduro Robusto by JRE Tobacco Company. Rancho Luna made its debut in 2015 as a brand showcased by CLE Cigar Company.  It was originally positioned as a one-blend offering sold in bundle packs. Once it came under JRE Tobacco’s umbrella, the brand was revamped into two new blends – a Habano and Maduro. In addition, the packaging was upgraded to boxes and new bands were introduced. The name “Rancho Luna” pays homage to the Eiroa Tobacco Farm and in particular, those evenings where there is a full moon and one can hear the howling in the wild.

Rancho Luna gives JRE Tobacco Company its second placement on a Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year Countdown. Maduros are off to a very strong start on the 2017 Countdown as this is the third one to place on the list.

The Rancho Luna Maduro consists of a San Andres Maduro wrapper over Honduran tobaccos that include an Authentic Corojo binder and Authentic Corojo and Habano in the filler. The Robusto is a classic “5 x 50” size.

Flavor-wise, the Rancho Luna Maduro Robusto delivers notes of mocha (a combination of coffee and chocolate), maduro sweetness (a cross between dried fruit and natural tobacco), and a slight pepper note. The San Andres wrapper on this cigar won’t overpower you.  These flavors are medium-bodied and this is countered by medium strength.

Priced at $7.00, the Rancho Lana Maduro Robusto delivers an excellent smoke – and makes it an easy Box Worthy Thirty candidate.
