For the fifth time, Padrón Cigars is releasing an exclusive pair of cigars to members of the Tobacconist Association of America (TAA). At this year’s 2018 TAA Convention held at Casa de Campo in La Romana in the Dominican Republic, Padrón Cigars made a big splash bringing the Padrón Black No. 89 as its contributions to the 2018 TAA Exclusive Series of cigars.

The Padrón Black Label No. 89 is a rounded 6 x 46 Corona Gorda. It is available in both a maduro and natural format, but not much else has been revealed about the blend.

While the previous four pairs of cigars have been extensions to the Padrón 1926 Serie or Padrón 1964 Anniversary lines, the Padrón Black is something that is quite different. At the same time, it’s not a completely new cigar. It was originally released as a special pair of cigars that was sold exclusively at Smoke Inn at a January 2016 event held to commemorate the late José Orlando Padrón’s 89th birthday. There it was simply known as the Padrón No. 89.

Smoke Inn Owner Abe Dababneh confirmed on his KMA Talk Radio show on 5/3/18 that he spoke to the Padrón family and they confirmed to him that the Padrón Black Label No. 89 is indeed the Padrón No. 89 birthday cigar for Jose Orlando Padrón.

Pricing has been reported at $16.50 and the cigar will ship in ten-count boxes. Dababneh says the packaging will also be slightly different as the Smoke Inn release had the event date on it.

The Padrón Black Label No. 89 marks the fourth time in five years, and fifth time overall, a pair of cigars has been made exclusively for the Tobacconist Association of America. Each installment has featured a natural and maduro wrapper.  The other TAA releases include:

The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Toro has been an ongoing annual TAA release. Meanwhile, the Padron 1964 Anniversary Belicoso and Padrón 1926 Series No. 47 have been made regular production offerings by the company.
