As it has been for the ten years I have covered the IPCPR Trade Show, La Aurora Cigars was a part of the Miami Cigar and Company booth. Miami Cigar and Company is the exclusive U.S. distributor of La Aurora and the two companies have forged one of the closest partnerships in the cigar industry. La Aurora is the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, and Miami Cigar and Company has done an excellent job at showcasing La Aurora’s brand identity. 2019 was one of the biggest years in terms of releases being showcased by La Aurora at the IPCPR Trade Show, and they did not disappoint.

La Aurora is a company proud of its rich history and it loves to commemorate milestones. Most of the 2019 releases paid homage to milestones in one form or another.

La Aurora launched the regular production La Aurora 115th Anniversary Cigar. Since La Aurora was founded in 1903, this is the 116th year of La Aurora, but the line was actually launched at InterTabac 2018 last year.  The 115th line consisted of two limited releases (a.Belicoso and a jar release that featured a Gran Toro) and a regular production line. The limited releases reached stores earlier this year, and the Trade Show saw the regular production 115th anniversary make its debut. The regular production 115th blend differs from the limited-edition releases, and it’s being rolled out in four sizes.

In 2016, La Aurora Cigars launched an offshoot of its 107 line called the  La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2006. This is a cigar that utilizes harvest year tobaccos from 2006 and went on to win the 2017 #2 Cigar of the Year on Cigar Coop. This year La Aurora decided to follow it up with the La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2007 – and you guessed it – it’s utilizing tobaccos from the harvest year of 2007. La Aurora has said it felt the 2007 was an exceptional harvest year for the tobaccos used, and it certainly made for creating an exceptional blend.

Speaking of La Aurora 107 (which incidentally was created for the company’s 107th anniversary) there was a size showcased in the form a of a 4 x 58 chubby short perfecto called Zeppelin. This is a release that actually made its debut in China last year and is now made available for the U.S. market.

The La Aurora 107 Zeppelin and the La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2007 cigars both sported a new band design for the La Aurora 107 line.

La Aurora’s Time Capsule series, a value-priced line that pays homage to the history of the La Aurora factory released its 4th installment earlier this year with the La Aurora 1985 Maduro. It joins the La Aurora 1962 Corojo, 1987 Connecticut, and the La Aurora 1903 Cameroon. The cigar features a Brazilian Maduro wrapper. The Time Capsule releases pay homage to the year La Aurora started working with a particular wrapper and 1985 represents the year it worked with the Brazilian Maduro.

Finally, the La Aurora Preferidos Hors d’Age, a limited production ultra-premium cigar that was showcased at the 2018 IPCPR Trade Show, makes a return for 2019. The company described the 2019 edition of the Hors D’Age as a new vintage. The name Hors D’Age stands for “beyond time” and it pays homage to the extra aging the cigar undergoes (two years) after being rolled.
