One could make the argument that Mombacho Cigars S.A. has had a quiet first half of 2019. That changed when it came to the IPCPR. The company showcased two new offerings and had a full launch of a third one.

The big news was the launch of the collaboration with Diplomatico Rum. Dubbed the Diplomatico by Mombacho, the cigar is designed to be paired with Diplomatico Rum. The project was actually announced at a pre-show party hosted by Mombacho at the Nomad hotel.

The Diplomatico by Mombacho was formally showcased at the 2019 IPCPR Trade Show. What’s significant is it is the first non-Nicaraguan puro to be released under the Mombacho brand. The cigar is highlighted by an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.

The third installment of Mombacho’s vintage series, the Cosecha 2014, was also formally showcased. The Cosecha 2014 uses Nicaraguan tobaccos that were all from a 2014 crop. The cigars were rolled that same year and have been aging ever since.

Mombacho also brought Casa Favilli to the show. It’s a cigar named after its factory in Grenada, Nicaragua. This cigar is a Nicaraguan puro highlighted by a Nicaragua Broadleaf wrapper. The cigar had a soft launch this past year, but now is available nationally to retailers.

While Mombacho is known for their Nicaraguan puros, cigars such as the Ecuadorian Habano wrapped Diplomatico and Broadleaf wrapped Casa Favilli show the company is beginning to expand out of its comfort zone.
