Agile Cigar Reviews are cigar assessments where we use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are rescoring or giving a score for the first time. It might be a blend we are looking at in a different size. Today we look at the Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo in the Robsusto size.. This is a cigar we previously assessed back in December 2016.

Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo Robusto

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Factory: My Father Cigars SA
Robusto: 4 1/2 x 50

The Nestor Miranda Collection was launched by Miami Cigar & Company back in 2016. It’s a line that carries the name of company founder Nestor Miranda. At the time the Nestor Miranda Collection was launched, Miami Cigar and Company had made a decision to retire the Nestor Miranda Special Selection line. The Nestor Miranda Collection was launched in three blends: Maduro, Habano, and Connecticut (the Connecticut was actually a carryover from the Nestor Miranda Special Selection). A year after the Nestor Miranda Collection was launched, a fourth blend was added in order to incorporate Nestor Miranda’s favorite wrapper – Corojo. Today we revisit the Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo in the Robusto size.

Like the rest of the Nestor Miranda Collection, the Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo is produced at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The cigar itself uses all-Nicaraguan tobaccos highlighted by the Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper. The Robusto is actually a Short Robusto that measures 4 1/2 x 50. It’s a size also called the “Coffee Break” – a name popularized in the Nestor Miranda Special Selection line.

The Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo Robusto kicked off with notes of cocoa, natural tobacco, wood, citrus, and white pepper. During the early phases of the cigar, the cocoa and natural tobacco moved into the forefront. By the second third, the natural tobacco took over as the sole primary note. It was during the second third where the pepper increased. The final third of the Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo Robusto saw the natural tobacco remain in the forefront. The pepper closed in as a primary note while the cocoa, wood, and citrus rounded out things.

The flavors delivered started out medium-bodied before progressing to medium to full in the second half. This was countered by medium strength from start to finish. The draw was excellent. At the same time, the burn performed very well,  but did require several touch-ups along the way.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

I’ve always been partial to the Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo in this (short) Robusto size. It’s one that has delivered excellent flavor and has had enough flavor nuances to keep me interested. I did find the spice level to be a little dialed back compared to when I first smoked this in 2016. Overall this has been and remains an enjoyable smoke to me. It’s a cigar I could recommend to an experienced cigar enthusiast – or someone who is a novice looking for something that is medium-plus in body. At 90 points, the Nestor Miranda Collection Corojo Robusto reaches the Cigar Coop Standard of Excellence. It’s a cigar I would smoke again – and will buy multiples to keep in my humidor.
