Joya Cabinetta Lancero Review

Today, we review the Joya Cabinetta in the Lancero size. The Cabinetta is a cigar from Joya de Nicaragua that features two wrappers, segmented on the upper and lower portions of the cigar. The lower segment features an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. The segment by the cap features a Nicaraguan Criollo. This is a cigar that traces back to 2010 when it was released as the Joya de Nicaragua Cabinetta Serie. In 2016, Joya de Nicaragua rebranded it as the Joya Cabinetta and moved it under its Joya brand. At the time of the rebrand, a lancero size known as the No. 13 was available. However, this size was not included in the rebrand. However, in 2024, Joya de Nicaragua opted to do a limited run of the lancero size, known simply as the Joya Cabinetta Lancero.

PERFORMANCE

The Joya Cabinetta Lancero opened up with notes of coffee, cream, cedar, and orange rind. The coffee, cream, and cedar became the primary notes on the tongue while the cedar was prominent on the retro-hale. During the first third, the orange rind and cream notes took over as the primary notes, and by the end of the first third, the orange rind had become the primary note. Toward the end of the first third, some classic wood notes entered the background, complementing the coffee, cedar, and cream.

The wood notes joined the orange rind by the midway point, complemented by the coffee, cedar, and, to a lesser extent, the secondary notes. As the cigar reached the Criollo wrapper, the cedar notes intensified and took over as the primary aroma. The wood, orange rind, and coffee notes rounded out the flavor profile. The Joya Cabinetta Lancero finished with a soft, cool nub.

The flavors delivered were medium-bodied, countered by medium strength. In terms of strength versus body, the body had a slight edge throughout the smoking experience. The burn maintained a straight burn line and path from start to finish, requiring minimal touch-ups. The draw had a touch of resistance, which is something that I like.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Joya Cabinetta Lancero delivered a solid smoking experience. The Joya Cabinetta is a very good blend. The lancero provides a nice amount of flavor nuances and transitions, but in terms of the actual flavors delivered, I think the larger ring sizes are still superior. Still at $9.95, this cigar is a bargain and one that can appeal to any cigar enthusiast. As for myself, while not my first choice of a size, this is a cigar I would buy and smoke again.
