Bobby Newman, executive vice president of J.C. Newman Cigar Company appeared on the last segment of the 4/14/2012 Cigar Dave Show and announced a new line being added to the J.C. Newman Cigar family – the Perla del Mar. This translates to “pearl of the sea”.
Newman described the effort as a two year effort that he called a “dovetail of the Brickhouse” . The Perla del Mar is intended to be a smoother, milder, yet “spicy” offering. The cigar will be positioned as a value-priced cigar with an SRP of $4.75 to $5.95. The Perla del Mar will make its debut at the 2012 IPCPR Trade Show in Orlando, Florida and plans for availability to retailers will be in September.
There were no details of specific frontmarks for the Perla del Mar, although Newman did mention this would be a box-press. Newman did reveal the details of the blend.
Wrapper: Connecticut Seed Ecuadorian
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
It appears that J.C. Newman is positioning a value-priced milder offering. This will complement its value-priced medium offering in the Brickhouse, and the value-priced fuller offering in El Baton. JC Newman also sells the Diamond Crown, Cuesta Ray, and La Unica lines.
