Las Cumbres Tabaco, the company of longtime industry icon Jose Blanco has announced its second release. The Senorial 65th Anniversary is slated to become the company’s first limited edition cigar. The cigar is being made in one size – a 5 3/4 x 55 perfecto with the vitola name Perfecto Elegance. It commemorates Blanco’s 65th birthday and was announced on October 27th, 2014 – the actual date Blanco turned 65.
Following his departure from Joya de Nicaragua, Blanco announced he was returning to his roots in the Dominican Republic. This past February, Las Cumbres Tabaco announced the inaugural Senorial – a multinational blend. Now Blanco goes even closer to his roots by producing an all-Dominican blend for the Senorial 65th Anniversary. Like the inaugural Senorial line, the Senorial 65th Anniversary is being produced at Tabacalera Palma – the factory run by Blanco’s cousin Jochi Blanco.
In a press release announcing the cigar, Blanco said: “I decided to blend this cigar with 100% Dominican Tobaccos to honor this beautiful cigar-country where I am from and where I grew up learning everything I know. I am lucky that my cousin Jochi has truly fantastic tobaccos in his farms, extremely well aged and processed, ready for such a blend. This is a Limited Edition of 20,000 cigars and it comes in boxes of 10, in one single size, Perfecto.”
The Senorial 65th Anniversary features the same primary band as the regular production Senorial, but has a secondary band with the text “65th Anniversary”.
Blanco didn’t give a specific ship date but said, “Senorial 65th Anniversary will however be out on the market after 90 days of aging post rolling, meaning after my birthday.” A post on social media by Blanco indicated this could be as early is mid-November.
The Senorial 65th Anniversary will carry an suggested retail price of $14.00 per cigar. The cigars will only be available to brick and mortar retailers. At a glance, here is a look at the Senorial 65th Anniversary:
Blend Profile
“This is a cigar very special to me, and I wish to share more than the usual by also mentioning these beautiful Dominican farms, as well as primings depending on the seeds,” said Blanco in a press release. “Depending on the farm and seed, I carefully chose each priming and I am only using tobaccos with 5 to 6 years of age for this edition. It all wraps up in a medium to full bodied cigar, full flavored with great complexity and a quality smoothness. It is hence very balanced and in harmony.”
As mentioned the blend is a Dominican puro with tobaccos from three farms.
Wrapper: 6 year-old Dominican Piloto Cubano from La Canela farm
Binder: Dominican Corojo from La Canela farm
Filler: (Each with 5 years of age) Dominican Piloto Cubano, Ligero, from La Canela farm; Dominican Corojo, Viso, from Jacagua farm; Dominican Corojo, Seco, from Gurabo farm
