One of the iconic limited edition series is making a return. This past week E.P. Carrillo announced that for the first time in five years, the Short Run Series is making a return. Dubbed the E.P. Carrillo Short Run Retro 2021, the initial batch of the cigar is scheduled to be shipped to stores next year.
The “retro” theme is inspired by the fact that the company will be adorning the cigars and packaging with the original E.P. Carrillo logo for the boxes and bands.
The Short Run Retro 2021 features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and a combination of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler. The vitola names are inspired by record names, paying homage to master blender Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s roots as a drummer. The sizes are: Short Play (Robusto): 5 x 50; Extended Play (Toro): 6 x 52; and Long Play (Gordo) 6 x 60. Pricing is set at $7.50 (Short Play), $8.50 (Extended Play), and $9.50 (Long Play). Each of the cigars are packaged in 24-count boxes.
The Short Run Series was an annual release than ran from 2010 to 2016. Typically it was a limited one and done series, although the 2016 release was brought back as an ongoing release.
Cigar Aficionado says the company is considering another batch of the Short Run Retro 2021 later this year.
