Wawa Chicken Noodle Soup
Today, we are reviewing the Wawa Chicken Noodle Soup. Wawa is a convenience store and gas station chain primarily located in the Mid-Atlantic region and Florida. As of 2023, there are 1,032 locations. The company was founded by Graham Wood in 1964, after the Wood family had previously been involved in the dairy business. Although many people refer to Wawa as a gas station, its origins lie in the convenience store sector, and it didn’t open its first gas station until 1995.

Wawa has a great selection of soups, and one thing that sets their Chicken Noodle Soup apart is that you can get it any time of the day or night, 24/7. In contrast, most of their other soups are only available during certain times or seasons.

The Experience

The following is how scoring is handled for Wawa Chicken Noodle Soup. This formula is similar to that used for the Panera Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup review. Like the Panera review, I put chicken and noodles into one category as the primary ingredients, and the others were placed under “extras.”

  • Stock (Broth): 4 points
  • Chicken and Noodles: 3 points
  • Extras (Carrots, Celery, Onion, Herb): 1 point
  • Intangibles: 2 points

Stock (Broth)

The chicken brought a delightful richness to the dish. Although it may not have been the most luxurious or decadent broth I’ve ever tasted, it was more than sufficient to satisfy my cravings. The broth offered a pleasing chicken flavor, and I appreciated that it wasn’t overly salty, either.

Score: 2.50 points out of 4 points

Chicken and Noodles

The chicken used in Wawa Chicken Noodle soup is white meat. The chicken was nice and tender, and I would have liked a little more of it.

The soup contains egg noodles that are shaped like strips. A common observation is that these noodles often become slightly overcooked during reheating, which frequently occurs with prepackaged soups. The soup being kept hot for long periods also contributes to the overcooked texture of the noodles. On the positive side, the soup is well-balanced, featuring an adequate quantity of chicken alongside the noodles.

Score: 1.5 points out of 3 points

Extras (Vegetables and Herbs)

The “extras” with the Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup are sliced carrots, chopped celery, onion, and a mix of herbs. From what I understand, the onions were dehydrated before the soup was made. This allows the onions not to dissolve completely. Again, there is an adequate amount of extras in this soup.

Score: 0.5 points out of 1 point

Intangibles

The primary intangible aspect of this chicken noodle soup is its favorable taste. Overall, the experience of enjoying the soup slightly surpasses the individual components, which is a positive aspect. However, there are still a few shortcomings to consider.

I like the ratios of the ingredients used. Sometimes, the chicken, noodles, and extras can be too much, and you lose some of the broth factor. In this case, the balance of broth versus the ingredients worked well.

Score: 1.25 points out of 2 points

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Personally, I am a big fan of soups, but in the 24/7 world, it’s hard to get soup in the late night or morning hours outside of the home. Wawa is one of the few places to get soup during these off-hours. This isn’t reflected in the final score, but it is important to mention.  As I mentioned earlier, I would prefer the noodles to be less cooked. If the noodles hadn’t been overcooked, the score for the “Chicken and Noodles” would have been higher. For a convenience store, this soup is a nice option. I enjoy chicken noodle soup during late hours, and Wawa provides a flavorful choice that is available all day. I understand it may not be the highest-rated soup, but it’s good enough for me to keep returning to it.

Summary

Extras (1) 0.50
Intangibles (2) 1.25
