July 3rd is a very important day for Cigar Coop, especially this year.
First up, we reached 13 consecutive years of daily publishing on Cigar Coop. It was on July 3, 2012 when Cigar Coop went to this model of publishing original content. There have been some bumps and bruises to make that happen, but all-in-all we have been able to meet that goal over the past 4,749 days. This week, we faced our greatest challenge as a major infrastructure issue to the website happened. While we haven’t gotten out of the woods, through some excellent support from our IT partner and creative ways to publish, we kept the streak going and achieved this milestone. I’ve always said the streak will come to an end, but it will be on my terms.
July 3, 2025 is also a significant day because that is the deadline for new cigar releases to be eligible for the 2025 Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year Countdown. This means if your cigar has not entered commerce in a meaningful way (not a one-store release) by yesterday’s deadline, it will have to wait until the 2026 Countdown. With this deadline, all cigars released in a window two years prior to July 3, 2025 are eligible, as long as they are reviewed on Cigar Coop by October 31, 2025. Remember, we are a review site and if you cigar isn’t reviewed, it shouldn’t be eligible for Cigar of the Year.
Finally, it was one year ago this weekend where Cigar Coop launched food reviews. We have kept our food reviews to one a week and they have been under our category “The Blog.” These food reviews have been an enormous success, becoming some of our most read content on the website. Today, I’m happy to announce that the food reviews will be branded under the name COALITION EATS going forward. Nothing else will change in terms of that content and the frequency, but it will now be a brand in full standing on Cigar Coop. Logo is coming soon.
