#18: My Uzi Weighs a Ton |
When I can find an Epic Encounter that is a 60 ring gauge cigar, it is something special. From a technical standpoint, many cigar enthusiasts are sour on the big ring gauge cigars, but I’ll admit I’m a fan. This Epic Encounter – a joint project by Drew Estate Subculture Studios and Joya de Nicaragua brings one of the better 60 ring gauge cigars for 2011.
Coming in at #18 is My Uzi Weighs a Ton (or MUWAT for short). The MUWAT represents the first joint blending collaboration with Jonathan Drew himself and the folks at Joya de Nicaragua. Tobaccos for this blend come from both the Drew Estate side and the Joya de Nicaragua side. Drew blended this cigar and it was rolled at the Joya de Nicaragua factories.
The flavor profile features flavors of dried fruit, cocoa, and wood. On the after-draw, the cigar delivered a wonderful pepper spice. I wouldn’t categorize the MUWAT as the most complex smoke, but it is a flavorful one. For a 60 ring gauge cigar, this is well constructed – excellent burn and excellent draw. The MUWAT also won’t overwhelm you with strength – I’d categorize it as medium. However, the flavors have depth – medium to full for most of the smoke.
Note: A variation of this blend called the My Uzi Weighs a Ton Bait Fish was released in December. I am considering this a separate blend and not including it in this ranking. It will be eligible for my 2012 countdown.
