A few weeks ago, we reported on a special regional release of the Flor de las Antillas heading to five retailers in Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Alabama. This regional release is a special 6 x 48 rounded version of the Flor de las Antillas known as the MAM-13 LE.
The following is an update on the five retailers who these cigars have been allocated to. Reports are that there was a run of 500 boxes and each retailer received 100 boxes. We mentioned two of the retailers in our last report – Emerson’s Cigars and Birmingham Cigars
Birmingham Cigars (Alabama)
Burns Tobacconist (Chattanooga, TN)
Emerson’s Cigars (Virginia Beach, VA)
Havana Connections (Richmond, VA)
Tinderbox of the Carolinas (Charlotte, NC)
The MAM-13 LE marks the second rounded vitola to be released in the Flor de las Antillas line. It measures 6 x 48, which is slightly shorter than the 6 1/2 x 48 rounded Short Churchill that was released to Holt’s Cigars in Philadelphia earlier this year.
The Flor de las Antillas is a Nicaraguan puro that was released by My Father Cigars in 2012. The box-press robusto cigar scored a 92 on Cigar Coop, and the toro size is well-known for being Cigar Aficionado’s #1 Cigar of the Year for 2012.

Are these exclusive releases due to limited rare tobaccos used in the special blends, or just a marketing move on limited production. .?? Or do we just not know.

From what I know, the blend is the same. I believe its more on the marketing end. My Father Cigars has been absolutely brilliant in following up on winning Cigar of the Year. I was talking to someone today and we both agreed they might have had the most successful follow-up year to a Cigar of the Year ever. The limited releases are continuing to create interest and excitement for the brand. If you are a retailer getting one of these exclusives, you are getting a special follow-up to a Cigar of the Year – I personally think that's brilliant.

Thanks Will. This has such a complex subculture….growers/blenders/rollers/marketers….there's enough to overload any detail freak ! And yet it's the inside stories which heighten the enjoyment of the end product. When you buy it, maybe age it, and then smoke it…..you become part of that chain.
