Asylum Cigars has a announced a new limited production cigar called Asylum Devils Night. The cigar is intended to bring awareness to “Devil’s Night” which is the night before Halloween where hundreds of arsons occur in the city of Detroit, Michigan. In order to raise awareness, a portion of the sales will go to benefit Detroit City Firefighters.
The project was designed by Asylum Cigars co-founder Tom Lazuka. In a press release announcing the project Lazuka said, “We are very excited to launch this project in the area in which I grew up, especially with the beneficiaries I have in mind, which are the firefighters of Detroit. Devils Night is something that is often misunderstood outside of Detroit and I wanted to spread light on the fact that Detroit is on the rise, even in the face of crisis. The motto I coined for this project is simple, “Help a firefighter—Burn a cigar, not a house.”
The cigar is a Honduran puro produced at Christian Eiroa’s Aladino factory in Honduras. It will be offered in two sizes – a 5 1/2 x 46 and 6 x 52 – priced at $11.00 and $13.00 respectively. The two sizes will be available in ten count boxes with a total production of 500 boxes.
Asylum Devils Night will be officially launched at the Jenuine Cigar Bars in Sterling Heights, Michigan and Royal Oak Michigan on Friday October, 30 2015. The cigars are scheduled to begin shipping on October 31st.
The cigars are available for pre-order on a special web-site and will also be available for retailers to carry in their local shops.

To give Detroit a bit of a break, I think Devil’s Night arsons have dropped considerably in recent years and haven’t been near a hundred or more as they were in the 19080s and ’90s.

Happened to come across a “Devil’s Night” cigar box while rummaging at the cigar store. I was amused by the box, as I have been up-cycling used boxes into unique craft items. The story inside warmed my heart. Many years back my father lost his job when the mills in PA were closing in the early 60’s. We moved to Detroit where he took a job at Ford. We eventually moved back to our little town south of Pittsburgh. I have kept updated on the city, and all of the changes that have taken place over the years. Yes, the fires have decreased, but it was all due to the will of the people to make that change. Families are beginning to buy up some of the lost homes that had been reluctantly left behind, and making difference one at a time. Hopefully I will sell my little crafty “Devil’s Night” box at the craft fair, then donate the money to the Detroit Fire Dept.
Every little step helps. I so enjoyed the little story in the box.
