At Total Product Expo (TPE) 2023, Altadis U.S.A. is releasing another barber-pole cigar offering, the H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier. The H. Upmann brand was founded by German banker Hermann Upmann. The name Barbier pays homage to the German roots of Hermann Upmann as it is the German word for barber.
In this case, the barber pole used on the H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier combines two intertwined Ecuadorian wrappers – one Connecticut Shade and one Sumatra. These wrappers sit over an Indonesian Java binder and filler blend consisting of Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Broadleaf fillers. The cigars will be offered in five sizes: Corona, Robusto, Toro, Belicoso, and Churchill.
“The use of these contrasting shades of wrappers makes for an eye-catching, barber-pole-like presentation,” says Pedro Ventura, Hand Made Operation and Product Development Manager of Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic in a press release. “The wrappers work together to add an entirely new flavor profile to the cigar, making one’s smoking session a lot more interesting as well.”
Last year, Altadis U.S.A. introduced a pair of barber-pole offerings as an extension to its Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real line.
Total Product Expo takes place February 22-24, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
