Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust (DTT) will launch the Umbagog Bronzeback at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show.
The Umbagag Bronzeback is an extension of the Umbagog brand. The difference is that it is finished with a “2LS” Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. 2LS is a designation for the leaves typically situated between the 1/3 to 1/2 mark on the stalk. These leaves sit beneath what is called the “Mediums.”
“This section of the plant produces wrapper with a different hue and flavor profile. Their color will vary from a paler brown to that classic maduro hue, but there is really no way to know until you bulk in the pilones,” commented DTT Master Ligador Steve Saka.
“Whether lighter or darker, the flavor is the key difference – rather than be that those classic sweet, earthy and cocoa notes exhibited by broadleaf, the 2LS leaves typically give the smoker a slightly less sweet, but significantly more peppery smoking experience,” continued Saka.
Produced at the NACSA factory, Umbagog is named after a lake in New Hampshire on which Saka enjoys fishing. The Bronzeback is a type of Smallmouth Bass. Saka got the inspiration for Umbagog Bronzeback from a brand back in the 1980s/1990s that used the 2LS wrapper. It became a personal favorite of Saka’s and led him to bring this expression of Broadleaf back to the market.
Sold in ten-count bundles, Umbagog Bronzeback is priced at $97.50 per bundle.
The PCA Trade Show opens March 23, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bronzeback is slated to ship in April.
