Today, we review the S.T. Dupont Slimmy Lighter. In 2023, S.T. Dupont expanded its jet-flame lighter collections by introducing three new models: Slimmy, Biggy, and Twiggy. Each of the three lighters was a squeeze ignition lighter with a flat flame. All three were designed to look like S.T. Dupont’s iconic Line 2 soft-flame lighter. The Slimmy also brings elements from the thin design of S.T. Dupont’s Slim 7 lighter.
The three lighters can be best described as follows:
- Slimmy: The lighter features a razor-thin, single, flat, blue torch flame half an inch wide.
- Biggy: Similar to the Slimmy, but a thicker lighter with a larger torch flame measuring 3/4 inch wide
- Twiggy: Slightly thicker but thinner in width than Slimmy. The torch flame measures 1 cm wide (0.39 inches)

APPEARANCE
The lighter itself has a mostly black lacquer finish. Gold makes up the edges, the squeeze ignition, and a stripe on the front and back of the lighter. The squeeze ignition is on the right side of the lighter.
The top of the unit has an open aperture, through which the flame comes out when the lighter is ignited.
OPERATION
Squeezing the side ignition mechanism ignites the Slimmy lighter and releases the flame. When the Slimmy ignites, there is a distinct click. For those hoping for the “ping” sound heard with the Line 2 light, you will be disappointed, as there is not one on the Slimmy. This is demonstrated in the video below.
The lighter has a safety mechanism that prevents the flame from being released when it is held upside down.
The bottom of the unit contains a mechanism to refill the lighter with butane. Adjusting the height of the flame is done by using a flat-head screwdriver.
EVALUATION
Positives
- Igniting this Slimmy couldn’t be easier—you simply squeeze the sides while holding the lighter straight up.
- While the Slimmy’s wide flame is a nice feature for covering the surface area, it is still thin and can be angled for re-lights or touch-ups requiring a little more precision.
- The safety mechanism works as long as the flame has not been released. If you take the lighter, ignite it, and then turn it upside down while the flame is in action, the safety mechanism will not work.
- This is a compact lighter. It can easily be fit in a pocket.
Negatives
- Since there is an open aperture, it could be challenging to clean
- The fuel tank is small. Understandably for a small lighter, it only held enough fuel use on four to five cigars when I used it on a mix of small and large cigars requiring a different amount of re-lights.
- The black lacquer stands out, but it will get fingerprints. S.T. Dupont recommends a soft cloth with eyeglass lens cleaner, which worked fine.
- While its compact size is a positive, you will need a case if you plan on carrying it around.
Other Evaluation Notes
- S.T. Dupont recommends using their butane for compatibility and optimum performance for the Slimmy. I did not attempt to deviate from S.T. Dupont’s recommendations here.
- There is no fuel tank. I’m not the biggest fan of fuel tanks unless they are easy to read.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Like I normally do with accessory reviews, I put the S.T. Dupont Slimmy through a daily use cycle for about 30 days. The lighter was durable and performed consistently. This was a high-quality lighter that was easy to operate and performed consistently.
I love the black lacquer and gold finish on the lighter I had. As mentioned above, it will get fingerprints, and you will want a case to prevent scratching.
The other point is that the fuel tank is small, but ultimately, for a compact unit, there will have to be tradeoffs in terms of size.
In terms of the price point, this is a $350.00 lighter. While S.T. Dupont makes lighters in a much higher price range, I would still put this unit in the same category as Rolex watches. I believe S.T. Dupont makes some of the best lighters in the industry. While it has a small fuel tank and requires some TLC to mitigate fingerprints and scratching, you can’t go wrong with this lighter for its performance and luxury feel. This earns a buy recommendation.
