At InterTabac 2024, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust will introduce Overseas No 1. This is the company’s first in a series of special limited-production cigars exclusively for the international (non-U.S.) market.
In a press release announcing Overseas No 1, Steve Saka, Master Ligador of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, explained the background of the project:
“I have always been a prolific blender and creator of handmade cigars – the process of creating distinct, unique ligas is one of my favorite endeavors within our industry. Trying new tobaccos, incorporating new techniques, exploring what is possible as a ligador and smoker has always enthralled me. But ultimately, the commercial realities limit me on just how many of these “muestras” I can release into the marketplace. In the domestic US market, I am afforded the flexibility to share some of my favorite new blends regularly in small quantities, but due to the complexities of the international market this has never been possible. And regretfully for our loyal DTT customers around the globe, they rarely have access to any of my small batch, limited production puros.
“So two years ago, I decided to create a new brand dedicated expressly for these rare cigars for our foreign customers. A common brand and design to simplify the various compliance needs of our international distributors, yet to afford me the opportunity to share some my favorite blending machinations and cigar expressions with our non-US connoisseurs. And to afford them the same exclusivity, to only offer these unique ligas outside of my domestic market.“
The blend features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a San Andres binder. The fillers consist of Nicaraguan tobacco and what is described as thick U.S.-grown Pennsylvania Seedleaf. The cigar comes in one size—a 6 x 50 parejo—and is available in 10-count boxes.
Distribution is handled through JDN (Joya de Nicaragua) International Distribution. InterTabac 2024 will take place September 19-21 in Dortmund, Germany.
