International Longshoremen’s Association Strike Suspended

The strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) at Eastern U.S. and Gulf Coast ports has been suspended. A temporary agreement has been reached that will extend the current Master Contract through January 15, 2025. The agreement ends a three-day strike that began on October 1, 2024.

Negotiations between the ILA and the U.S. Maritime Alliance continue among outstanding issues, but ILA workers are returning to work. A tentative agreement was reached around wages.

The following statement was issued:

The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025 to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues. Effective immediately, all current job actions will cease and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume.

An ILA strike could potentially affect the supply chain of premium cigars. See our coverage from earlier this week for more details.
