The Details
The 2024 #27 Cigar of the Year is the La Aroma de Cuba Connecticut Corona from Ashton Cigars. Although Ashton does not release many new cigars, the past few years have been busy for its La Aroma de Cuba brand. La Aroma de Cuba and San Cristobal are Ashton’s Nicaraguan brands from My Father Cigars. La Aroma de Cuba has undergone packaging changes. Post-pandemic, two new brands have also been added: Pasión and Connecticut.
As the name indicates, the La Aroma de Cuba Connecticut features a Connecticut shade wrapper grown in Ecuador. The Nicaraguan tobaccos come from the Garcia family farms in Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa. The line is produced at the Garcia family’s My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Corona is a classic 5 1/2 x 44 size.
The La Aroma de Cuba Connecticut Corona delivered notes of wood, citrus, cedar, pepper, and standout buttercream. The smoking experience delivered medium-bodied notes countered with medium strength.
This is the third time Ashton Cigars has appeared on the Cigar Coop Countdown, all with the La Aroma de Cuba brand. This is Ashton’s first appearance on the list since 2012. Meanwhile, counting backward down the number line, all four cigars revealed have come from Nicaragua.
