Altadis U.S.A. has announced it is releasing a Romeo y Julieta 150th Anniversary cigar. Unsurprisingly, it commemorates the Romeo y Julieta brand’s 150th anniversary. The cigar will launch later this month at Procigar 2025 and will have an official national debut in April at the 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show.
A report by Cigar Aficionado indicates the blend includes tobaccos from Altadis U.S.A.’s key agricultural parents. This includes an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper sourced from AJ Fernandez and a Mexican binder from the Turrent family. The fillers include Dominican tobaccos for José Mendez & Co. and Peruvian and Honduran tobaccos from the Plasencias. Production comes out of Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic. The Romeo y Julieta comes in three sizes, each in 16-count boxes. Pricing ranges between $25.00 and $28.00 SRP per cigar.
Romeo y Julieta is the Spanish name for the Shakespearean play, Romeo and Julieta. The brand was established in Cuba in 1875. While the brand is still made in Cuba by Habanos SA, the non-Cuban version comes from Altadis U.S.A. Now, 150 years later, Romeo y Julieta is one of the most iconic brands in the world.
“Celebrating 150 years is a moment of immense pride for all of us,” said Davide Moro, CEO of Altadis U.S.A. “This milestone honors the generations of individuals who have contributed to this journey—from farmers and rollers to retailers and our loyal consumers. It also marks the beginning of an exciting year-long celebration for this iconic brand.”
Oliver Hyams, Vice President of Marketing at Altadis U.S.A., said, “2025 marks a pivotal year for Romeo y Julieta. To honor this 150-year milestone we will feature a series of strategic releases and exclusive events to highlight the brand’s legacy and our vision for the future. We are excited to bring our consumers along for this exceptional journey and look forward to sharing what’s ahead for Romeo y Julieta.”
Additionally, the launch celebrating Romeo y Julieta’s 150th anniversary includes some exclusive humidor offerings. A unique “Palazzo of Love” humidor will be auctioned at the Procigar 2025 charity auction. And Altadis U.S.A. will showcase a bespoke Romeo y Julieta 150th Anniversary Humidor at the PCA 2025 Trade Show.
Moreover, 2025 is the 90th anniversary of another iconic brand in the Altadis U.S.A. portfolio, Montecristo.
