AJ Fernandez Fire

A massive fire broke out at the AJ Fernandez factory located in Estelí, Nicaragua. According to La Voz de Norte, the fire started in the packaging area on the morning of March 31, 2025, at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. A total of 1,500 people were evacuated, including 70 children from the kindergarten located on the facility. Numerous videos showed workers removing raw materials (tobacco), computer equipment, and furniture as the fire spread.

The total impact and losses from the fire are still unclear. Although no injuries were reported, a source told Cigar Coop that there were significant losses due to the incident. Most of these losses involved finished cigars and parts of the rolling area.

AJ Fernandez Cigars issued the following statement, ” From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayed for us, and stood by our side during this incredibly difficult time. Your love and support mean more than words can express. We are beyond grateful for the strength of our community, our team, and all those who have shown up for us. Above all, we are thankful that everyone is safe. In moments like these, we’re reminded of the power of unity and we feel it now more than ever. We will move forward-united, resilient and more committed than ever to what we stand for.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as needed.
