Mi Querida Green
Mi Querida Green No 2 Torpedo by Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust

Today, we review the Mi Querida Green No 2 Torpedo from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust (DTT). This is currently a limited exclusive to Smoke Inn. Mi Querida is a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapped brand in the DTT portfolio with several variations. Mi Querida Green is one of those interpretations.  In 2023, the first Mi Querida Green, the PatoPerro, was released as a massive 8 1/2 x 52 vitola. With the Green No 2, master ligador Steve Saka made some tweaks to the PatoPerro blend. He opted to use a Connecticut Broadleaf Dark Short wrapper. This is a wrapper that comes from the highest primings of a tobacco plant. These leaves tend to be scarce. Thus, the Green No 2 Torpedo is limited. This wrapper, combined with the Green blend and tapered head, brings out the boldness of the cigar.

In 2024, Saka decided to use the limited production of the Green No 2 as an exclusive for Smoke Inn in Florida. DTT’s Red Meat Lovers cigar was exclusive to Smoke Inn for several years. In 2023, a decision was made to make Red Meat Lovers a nationally available product. DTT would give Smoke Inn a new exclusive known as Kildahlton to replace Red Meat Lovers. Saka wasn’t pleased with the progress of that blend and opted to deliver the Mi Green No 2 Torpedo to Smoke Inn as its 2024 exclusive offering from DTT.

Saka still wasn’t happy with the Kildahlton and offered the Green No 2 Torpedo back to the Smoke Inn. For 2025, the cigar was rebranded as The Emerald Fish. It’s the same cigar except that the packaging is upgraded from a craft paper bundle to a dress box.

Appearance (*)

The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper of the Green No 2 has a milk chocolate-like color. There were some oils on the surface, but I would stop short of calling this an oily wrapper. Upon closer examination, some toothiness can be seen on the wrapper’s surface. There are some visible veins and some visible wrapper seams on the surface.  A nice, long taper at the head converges at a tip.

PERFORMANCE

Pre-Light Draw (*)

I used a straight cut to remove 60% of the tapered head of the Green No 2. This gave me enough surface to puff on the cigar while getting enough area for the tapering effect. From that point, it was on to the pre-light draw stage. The cold draw delivered a combination of earth, a minor amount of tobacco sweetness, and a touch of spices. This was still satisfactory pre-light draw. At this point, it was time to toast up the Green No 2 and head into the smoking phase.

Tasting Notes

The Green No 2 opened up with notes of chocolate, nut, mineral, damp earth, baker’s spice, and mixed pepper. Early on, the chocolate and nut notes moved to the forefront. The mineral, damp earth, baker’s spice, and pepper settled in the background. The damp earth was reminiscent of the original Mi Querida (Blue). Meanwhile, there were additional layers of pepper and earth on the retro-hale.

Going into the second third of the Green No 2, the chocolate and nut combination remained at the forefront. Along the way, there was a gradual increase in the damp earth and pepper notes. Meanwhile, there were still mineral and baker’s spice notes in the background.

By the final third, the damp earth and pepper had displaced the chocolate and nut notes as the primary note. The flavor profile was more gritty, but not harsh. The chocolate and nuts settled in the background with the mineral and baker’s spice.  This is the way the Green No 2 came to a close. The resulting nub was slightly soft to the touch and cool in temperature.

Burn

The Green No 2 had outstanding construction, reflected in the burn and draw. The cigar maintained a straight burn path and straight burn line, requiring minimal touch-ups. The resulting ash was light gray. This was an ash that was skewed toward the firmer side. As for the burn rate and burn temperature, both maintained ideal levels.

Draw

The draw of the Green No 2 was equally impressive. This was a draw with a touch of resistance to it, which I prefer. The cut area by the tip held up well during the smoking experience. In addition, a decent amount of smoke production came from the Green No 2.

Strength and Body

The Mi Querida Green No 2 is a bold cigar. This cigar started out with medium to full strength and medium to full-bodied flavors. Both the strength and body slowly increase along the way. By the 60% point of the smoking experience, the flavors became full-bodied. By the final third, the strength was also in full territory. There continued to be an increase in strength and body until the end.

In terms of strength versus body, the body had a very slight edge for most of the smoking experience.

BANDING AND PACKAGING NOTES (*)

First up, the green colored Mi Querida band looks great! I love that it is simple and has a hat “postage stamp” perforation effect. The band looks beautiful against the cigar.

As for the craft paper bundle, there is no good way to say this – I simply did not like it. Not only did it look cheap, but it also hides an exquisite cigar and band. I know about packaging delays, etc., but this is a miss – even with the “factory effect”.  The good news is that packaging is not scored here, and the better news is that Saka is moving the 2025 Emerald Fish version to nice boxes!

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

The Mi Querida Green might be the boldest of all the Mi Querida blends, getting a slight edge over the Triqui Tracha. The concentrated area where the torpedo tips seemed to be was the difference. What I really liked about the Green No 2 is more than any other Mi Querida; it gave me what I loved about Mi Querida Blue (grittiness, etc) and turned it up a notch in intensity.

Folks who know me know I think the single store release market is highly overrated, but when there is a really good one, it should be noted.  The Green No 2 is one of those excellent cigars. It’s bolder, so I’d steer it to a more experienced cigar enthusiast. It’s a cigar I certainly would buy and give it box-worthy (especially the box) consideration. Coming in at 90 points, it earns a Cigar Coop Standard of Excellence designation.
