Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2024 Review

Today, we review the Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2024. La Riqueza was first introduced in 2008 as a medium-bodied Connecticut Broadleaf. The name La Riqueza translates to “the riches” or “the wealth.” In 2017, Tatuaje Cigars placed the La Riqueza brand on “pause.” While it was not discontinued, the line was removed from Tatuaje’s order sheets. The company cited shortages of Connecticut Broadleaf as the reason for the pause, which had affected the industry. In 2022, Tatuaje released a bolder, limited-edition version of La Riqueza, featuring a box-pressed format measuring 5 5/8 x 54 and known as La Riqueza SE. Now, in 2024, La Riqueza SE is making a comeback, this time in a 6 3/8 x 44 Cazadores size.

The La Riqueza SE 2024 was released in two variants. The first was one that features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The second became the latest installment of the Tuxtla series, in which a Mexican San Andrés wrapper replaced the Broadleaf. Today, our focus is on the Connecticut Broadleaf version.

PERFORMANCE

La Riqueza SE 2024 opened up with notes of coffee, earth, natural tobacco, bittersweet cocoa, cedar, and mixed pepper. The coffee and cocoa notes took center stage early on. Sometimes I pick up a blend of coffee and cocoa flavors that I like to call “mocha.” However, in this case, the flavors were distinct and stood out on their own. The retro-hale delivered notes of mixed peppers. As the cigar entered the second third, the cedar and pepper increased in intensity, with the cedar rising at a more rapid rate. By the end of the second third, the cedar joined the coffee in the forefront. The final third didn’t see much change, with cocoa and cedar remaining as primary notes, accompanied by natural tobacco, earth, and mixed pepper as secondary notes. La Riqueza 2024 finished with a soft, cool nub.

La Riqueza SE 2024 delivers medium to full flavors, countered by a medium strength. There was a slight increase in intensity with both attributes. The body had a slight edge in terms of strength. The burn maintained a straight burn path and straight burn line. The draw had a touch of resistance to it, which is something I like.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

Overall, I enjoyed the flavor profile of the La Riqueza SE 2024. Normally, I would gravitate toward a bigger ring gauge, but the 43 ring of the Cazadores format worked well for this blend. There was a nice range of flavor nuances right from the start, and this continued throughout the entire cigar experience. I definitely found the SE 2024 to be bolder than the original La Riqueza cigars. It’s a nice cigar for the experienced cigar enthusiast, yet at the same time, it’s a good cigar for the novice to “graduate” beyond a medium profile. As for myself, this is a cigar I would definitely buy and smoke again.
