#23: La Flor Dominicana Limitado V

The second week of Epic Encounters begins in our 2012 Cigar of the Year countdown.  Coming in at the #23 Cigar of the Year is the La Flor Dominicana Limitado V.  The name of the cigar is exactly what this indicated – a limited production release by Litto Gomez’s La Flor Dominicana.  This cigar was announced just prior to the 2012 IPCPR Trade Show.  The Limitado series has been released only every two to three years – and it is perhaps this fifth release that is the best to date.

For La Flor Dominicana, this surprisingly marks the first appearance on a Cigar of the Year countdown.  This marks what I consider to be La Flor Dominicana’s strongest year in several years.

Complexity and flavor are definitely the story of the Limitado V.  The Limitado V has a complex flavor profile that consists of pepper, chocolate, coffee, nut, and citrus flavors.  The flavors are medium to full-bodied falling just a little short of full-bodied.  While the strength is also medium to full strength, there is a nice kick toward the end where it becomes full strength.

The construction is outstanding with a terrific burn and draw.

Blend Profile

For this blend, the Limitado V blend is being positioned as being based off the original Limitado I blend, but there are still differences.  While both cigars use an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and Dominican builder, it is a Nicaraugan binder for the Limitado V and a Dominican binder for the Limitado I.

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra Ligero
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Dominican

Vitolas Available

The Limitado V is available in a single vitola – a 6 1/2 x 54.
