Viaje Cigars Facebook page)

For the third consecutive year, Viaje Cigars is releasing a candela cigar. A picture of the Viaje White Label Project (WLP) Candela 2013 appeared on the Viaje Cigars Facebook page.  As with most Viaje announcements, there was a little aura of mystery around it.

There are no details on whether or not the blend has changed, but for the second year in a row, the Viaje WLP Candela is a 5 x 52 robusto vitola. Other than the picture, were the comments from Viaje: Back by popular demand for the third straight year” and “Shipping Monday to all Viaje authorized retailers”.

The White Label Project was launched over two years ago and has been deemed a series of experimental blends by Viaje. Like the rest of the White Label Project releases, the Viaje WLP Candela 2013 is produced in extremely limited quantities. The cigars are packaged in green paper wrapped bundles.  The number on the packaging indicates 175 bundles were produced.

The original Viaje White Label Project (WLP) Candela 2011 finished as our #28 Cigar of the Year for 2011.

Blend Profile

While there were no details on the blend specifics, the 2011 and 2012 candela releases had the following profile.  There was a modification in the blend between those release years, but the tobacco origins remained the same.  Typically, most Viaje cigars use Aganorsa (Nicaraguan) tobacco for the binder and filler, so there is no reason to believe this has changed.  However, we are listing the binder and filler as “not disclosed”

From the packaging in the photo, we can infer the size of the cigar is a 5 x 52 robusto, the same as for 2012.
