This month, Crowned Heads Cigars will release the Crowned Heads Paniolo Especial 2018 as an exclusive offering to Hawaii-based retailer R. Field and Wine Co. It’s the fourth consecutive year Crowned Heads has released an exclusive cigar for R. Field and Wine Co. under the Paniolo Especiale brand; however, for the first time, the Paniolo Especial will be a different blend and size than its predecessors.
Paniolo is a name that refers to a Hawaiian Cowboy. Produced at the My Father Cigars factory, the Paniolo Especial 2018 features a San Andres wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. The cigar will be offered in one size, a 5 1/2 x 48. This size was inspired by the Bolivar Super Coronas EL 2014. The Paniolo Especial 2018 will be limited to a production of 500 12-count boxes (6,000 cigars).
The Paniolo Especiale made its debut in 2015 and featured a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler in a Corona Gorda size. The 2015 blend and size were re-released in both 2016 and 2017. The 2018 release marks the first blend and size change for what has become an annual release.
“For the 2018 Paniolo, we wanted to get back a little closer to the roots of the 2015 OR”, commented Crowned Heads co-owner Jon Huber in a press release. “I’d been a fan of the Super Corona vitola and rather than simply re-release the 2105 Broadleaf blend in that size, we opted to riff on that original blend and utilize a San Andres wrapper which gave the flavor profile its own unique identity.”
The cigar will make its debut in an event at the Hawaii Prince Hotel hosted by R. Field and Wine with Jon Huber in attendance.
