When Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) spun off Forged Cigar Company in 2021, one of the first things it did was to take the El Rey del Mundo line and put it under the Forged umbrella. Previously, El Rey del Mundo was sold through JR Cigar and distributed through Santa Clara Cigars. This move was similar to what STG did when it took Diesel (which was a catalog brand) and moved in under the Brick and Mortar line. Over the past two years, Forged has grown the El Rey del Mundo brand, adding several releases. Just before the 2023 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Forged announced a new addition to El Rey Mundo – the Shade Grown. As the name indicates, it introduces a Connecticut Shade wrapper into the El Rey del Mundo collection.
El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown is highlighted by a Honduran-grown Connecticut Shade wrapper, a first for the brand. The remainder of the blend consists of a binder grown from the Jamastran Valley of Honduras and Honduran-grown fillers from Copan and Jamastran. There are two regular production sizes: Robusto: (5 1/2 x 50, SRP $5.99/cigar) and Toro (6 x 52, SRP $6.29/cigar). In addition, there is a limited edition Lonsdale size (6 1/2 x 44, SRP $5.89/cigar). All three sizes are available in 20-count boxes. Production comes from the HATSA factory in Honduras.
