Padron 60th Anniversary Natural
Padrón 60th Anniversary Natural

Today, we review the Padrón 60th Anniversary Natural. As the name indicates, this cigar commemorates 60 years of the Padrón Cigars company. The 60th made its debut at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. Officially, Padrón Cigars celebrates its anniversary on September 8th, so a small allocation was released in time for that date, before a wider release circulated later in 2025. Three things that stood out about this release are: 1) The gold-colored coffins – a Padrón first; 2) A new perfecto size for Padrón (first since the Padrón 80th); and 3) the use of the throwback style Padrón bands. The 60th Anniversary is also one of the most premium Padrón Cigars with a current price point of $75.00 SRP/cigar.

Padrón 60th Anniversary Natural Coffin

Padrón is known for creating cigars to honor two milestones: 1964 and 1926. 1964 is the year Padrón Cigars was founded, while 1926 is the year the patriarch, José Orlando Padrón, was born. Padrón named a regular production line for each of those years. Additionally, Padrón has released commemorative, limited-production cigars to honor both milestones. The following is a list of limited-production cigars commemorating the company’s anniversary. Each of these cigars is available in both Natural and Maduro blends.

Without further ado, let’s break down the 60th Anniversary Natural and see what this cigar brings to the table.

Appearance (*)

The Nicaraguan wrapper of the 60th Anniversary natural had a light to medium coffee bean roast color with a slight amount of rosado tint. There were touches of oil, but this wasn’t an oily wrapper. The wrapper also had a slight toothiness to it. It was a slightly bumpy wrapper. There were also a few veins.

Padrón 60th Anniversary Natural Footer

The cigar itself had a nozzle tip with a steep taper and an open footer. Overall, I found this to be a somewhat sloppy nozzle on this perfecto. One sample came with a chipped piece of tobacco off the wrapper. There were also a couple of small cracks.  This is certainly something I would not expect from a Padrón. This occurred in both samples. Meanwhile, there was a slow, gentle taper toward the cap.

PERFORMANCE

Pre-Light Draw (*)

Before lighting up the 60th Anniversary Natural, a straight cut was used to remove the cap. Given that this cigar had a short taper, the cut I used removed the majority of the taper from the cigar. With the cap removed, it was time to commence with the pre-light draw. The cold draw delivered notes of natural tobacco sweetness and a slight earthy note. While it wasn’t the most complex of pre-light draws, this was a satisfying one. At this point, it was time to toast up the nozzle tip of the 60th Anniversary Natural and head into the smoking phase.

Tasting Notes

The 60th Anniversary Natural opened up with notes of natural tobacco, earth, and mixed pepper. The natural tobacco notes moved into he forefront early on. The earth and mixed pepper settled in the background and were joined by some bread notes. There was also a creamy undertone to the flavor profile. Meanwhile, on the retrohale, there was an additional layer of black pepper.

As the 60th Anniversary Natural headed into the second half, the natural tobacco notes remained primary. Meanwhile, the bread notes were replaced by an herbal note. The herbal notes increased gradually, as did the black pepper and earth notes. By the midway point, the herbal notes displaced the natural tobacco as the primary note. By this point, the creamy undertones had dissipated.

By the final third, the earth notes joined the herbal notes in the forefront. There were still notes of pepper and natural tobacco delivering some spiciness and sweetness. This is the way the 60th Anniversary Natural finished up. The resulting nub was soft to the touch and cool in temperature.

Burn

In terms of burn, the 60th Anniversary Natural didn’t perform at a level I would expect from a Padrón. The burn was jagged, and there were a few points where it meandered off track. This required more touch-ups than I preferred. The resulting ash was skewed toward the looser side. This was an ash that was silver-gray. Meanwhile, the burn rate and burn temperature maintained ideal levels.

Draw

In terms of the draw, this cigar performed exceptionally well, especially for something in a large perfecto format. Usually, larger perfectos have draws that are a little too open for me. This cigar had a touch of resistance, which made it relatively easy to extract the flavors from it.

Strength and Body

The 60th Anniversary Natural opened up with medium strength and medium-bodied flavors. There was a gradual increase in both attributes. By the midway point, the 60th Anniversary Natural had entered medium to full-bodied territory, where it remained for the duration of the smoking experience.

In terms of strength versus body, both attributes balanced each other nicely, with neither attribute overshadowing the other.

BANDING AND PACKAGING NOTES (*)

Padrón simply doesn’t do wrong when it comes to the packaging. From the shiny piano finish boxes to the gold coffins, the 60th Anniversary has a truly impressive presentation. The box and coffins are the same for the Natural and Maduros. This can make it confusing if you have 60th Anniversary Natural and Maduros in the coffers of your personal humidor.

Padrón 60th Anniversary Box

I also like the original Padrón logo on the bands and the box. I wish they would bring this logo back full-time.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

Sometimes it’s just easier to be straightforward: the Padrón 60th Anniversary Natural was disappointing. It let me down in two key areas. The first concern was the poor construction of the cigar, particularly the chips and cracks in the wrapper. While appearance isn’t scored, for a $75.00 cigar, I expect a higher quality in presentation. The cracks affected the burn, and I was surprised that they didn’t have a more negative impact.

The second reason had a significantly greater impact on the score, and that was the flavors. The flavors did not have me doing handstands. One other thing I expect from Padrón is great flavor, and the 60th Anniversary Natural did not deliver in this regard.

This score is 86 points. This is not enough to make me recommend you splurge on a $75.00 cigar. I’m hoping for better from the 60th Anniversary Maduro.
