Patina Oro de Nicaragua

Patina Cigars has announced its fifth regular production line, the Patina Oro de Nicaragua.

Patina Oro de Nicaragua features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan and Connecticut Broadleaf filler tobaccos. The cigars are available in four sizes: Robusto, Toro, Toro Extra, and a limited production Lancero. This marks the first lancero put into ongoing production by Patina Cigars.  In addition, the Oro de Nicaragua marks the company’s first offering of its cigars in 20-count boxes. Production for the Oro de Nicaragua comes from NACSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Oro de Nicaragua was the name of an exclusive cigar carried by Chicago-based retailer Casa de Montecristo that was made by My Father Cigars. Patina owner Mo Maali worked for Casa de Montecristo and had an affinity for the cigar. This led him to pursue acquiring the name. Patina Cigars is currently going through the process of acquiring the trademark. Maali says the sale of the Oro de Nicaragua name is complete. While the trademark transfer process has not been finalized, the original owners have given permission for Patina to release the cigar.

“My connection to the name Oro de Nicaragua started nearly a decade ago when Casa de Montecristo in Chicago had commissioned production of the cigar to My Father Cigars. It was one of the first cigars that really got me into the world of boutique cigars, remember this was about ten years ago. Since the name hadn’t been used in quite some time, I approached Mike and Sam about having Patina make the Oro de Nicaragua for them which ultimately led to Patina purchasing the name and now creating a core line. The Oro de Nicaragua is a wonderfully complex and well-balanced cigar that will be the fullest Patina offering to date and I’m excited to add it to our growing portfolio,” stated Maali in a press release.

Patina Cigars is pricing the line at $13.00 to $16.00 per cigar. The Oro de Nicaragua will ship in late March, but Patina is offering pre-orders to retailers.  It is likely Patina will showcase the cigar at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show.
