This year, at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Patina Cigars showcased its fifth regular production line, the Oro de Nicaragua. The company was coming off a very solid 2023 that saw its first limited edition cigar, the Patina Anniversary, capture its #1 Cigar of the Year for 2023. The good news is the Patina Anniversary blend will live on as a future is planned for this blend.
Oro de Nicaragua was a shop exclusive cigar from My Father Cigars for Casa de Montecristo in Chicago that was in production from 2014 to 2016. It was a cigar that was quite special to Patina Cigars owner Mo Maali. Originally, Maali had asked the owners if he could make his own interpretation of Oro de Nicaragua for the shop. The owners said yes, but as things progressed Maali acquired the Oro de Nicaragua name as well.
Patina Oro de Nicaragua features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan and Connecticut Broadleaf filler tobaccos. The cigars are available in four sizes: Robusto, Toro, Toro Extra, and a limited production Lancero. This marks the first lancero put into ongoing production by Patina Cigars. In addition, the Oro de Nicaragua also marks the company’s first offering of cigars in 20-count boxes. Output for the Oro de Nicaragua comes from the NACSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The pricing comes in between $13.00 to $16.00 SRP/cigar. Oro de Nicaragua has already shipped to retailers.
As for the Patina Anniversary, it will live on. Mo Mali says the blend will become known as the “Limited” and will be introduced in a 5 x 54 format later this year. The goal is to get people to experience the blend in different sizes.
