Today, we review the Aramas A52 (5 x 52 Robusto) from Oz Family Cigars. Aramas is the second regular production line to come from Oz Family Cigars. Oz Family Cigars is a venture founded by Tim Ozgener. Tim’s father, Cano, founded CAO Cigars, and Tim played an integral role at CAO. Eventually, the Ozgeners sold CAO to the Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG). Once CAO was assimilated into the STG portfolio in 2010, Tim departed the cigar industry. In 2022, he returned, launching Ozgener Family Cigars, which subsequently was renamed Oz Family Cigars.
Tim Ozgener is proud of his Armenian heritage on his father’s side and his Turkish heritage from his mother. In Turkey, a mountain known as Mount Ararat is significant to Armenian and Turkish culture. The Armenians have also called the mountain Masis. The initial plan was to name the cigar Ararat or Masis. However, due to potential trademark issues with those names, Ozgener decided to create his own name – Aramas.

PERFORMANCE
The Aramas A52 opened up with mocha notes (a fusion of coffee and chocolate) and baker’s spice. The mocha moved into the forefront early, with the baker’s spice settling in the background. The retro-hale delivered a layer of black pepper. By the second third, the pepper was present on the tongue and was joined by a mineral note. Just before the midway point, the mocha fusion broke apart into separate coffee and chocolate notes. The coffee remained the primary note, but the chocolate joined the mineral and baker’s spice.
By the final third, coffee notes remained prominent upfront. The pepper and mineral notes now took center stage as secondary flavors. Touches of baker’s spice lingered, while the chocolate notes faded. This is how the Aramas A52 finished up. The resulting nub was soft to the touch and cool in temperature.
From a flavor standpoint, the Aramas A52 delivered a medium to full-bodied experience that was balanced by medium strength. The burn performed excellently, requiring minimal touch-ups to maintain a straight burn path and straight burn line.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
Final Thoughts
Back in July, I assessed the A55 (Toro) size of the Aramas, and I found it to be a cigar that really floated under the radar. The A52 is a cigar that is smaller, but bolder and more complex. On the one hand, some may see that as a positive, but in this case, I think the less bold and less complex A55 delivered better flavor. Ultimately, for just $1.00 more, I would still recommend the A55. Still, you may want to try a sample of the A52 and see if this is your thing.
