Today, we examine the contents of the 2024 Smoke Inn Advent calendar for day 19. Warning: spoiler alert.
An Advent calendar counts down the days until Christmas. This tradition is believed to have originated with the German Lutherans. The calendar features moveable parts, such as flaps, doors, or pockets, that reveal a daily surprise. In 2021, Smoke Inn released its first Advent calendar, where the “surprise” is a different cigar daily. For the first time since 2021, Smoke Inn has redesigned the packaging.
Today’s reveal is the Bosphorus B54 by Oz Family Cigars. Tim Ozgener announced his return to the cigar industry in 2022, debuting Ozgener Family Cigars (later shortened to Oz Family Cigars). Bosphorus was the company’s first release. The cigar is named after the Bosphorus Strait, which runs through Istanbul, Turkey, and separates Europe from Asia and highlights the heritage of the Ozgener family. Ozgener’s mother was Turkish, and his father, Cano, was Armenian. Ozgener takes pride in his parents’ 55-year marriage, achieving the American dream despite the tense history between Turkey and Armenia.
The initial production of Bosphorus came from Tabacalera Pichardo. Shortly after the launch, production moved to Tabacalera La Alianza (now known as Casa Carrillo), and there was a slight blend change.
