Today, we look at the performance of cigars on Cigar Coop by cigar price for 2024. The Performance Rankings were introduced in 2012 as a statistical analysis based on the average numerical score of all cigars assessed on Cigar Coop. It is meant to serve as a barometer regarding how the cigars were evaluated.
Inspired by Developing Palates, in 2021, we introduced a new category – the price of cigars. This is not meant to be an award but a look at how the scoring went and what we can learn from it. In this case, we look at the average score based on a particular price range.
We used the following criteria to implement this:
- The cigar must have its score published during the period of November 1, 2023, through October 31, 2024.
- All cigars scored were eligible regardless of release date. The goal is to look at scoring and how it maps to pricing.
- These prices are based on MSRP at the time of the assessment (or as close to possible). Most cigar companies do not include media on price adjustments. Where possible, we tried to validate this data..
- One cigar did not have an MSRP, so it was not included in this set
2024 Cigar Coop Performance Rankings by Cigar Price
- Average Price Cigar Reviewed: $20.93
- Aggregated Cost of 167 Cigars Reviewed (1 Cigar per Review): $3,494.99
- Average Cost of a Cigar on the 2024 Countdown: $21.67
- Average Review Score (including the cigar without an MSRP): 88.45

Assessing the Results
- This year there was a significant increase in $20.00 and over cigars assessed. Because of that, the Over $20.00 category was broken up in four different categories: $20.00 to $24.99, $25.00 to $34.99, $35.00 to $59.99, and Over $60.00. This isn’t just due to price increases, but reflects reviewing more expensive cigars.
- The average price for a cigar reviewed during the Cigar Coop year was $20.93. This was a major spike from $15.56 in 2023. This is another indicator of reviewing more expensive cigars
- The average cigar price that landed on the Countdown was $21.67. The overall average price of cigars reviewed in 2024 was $20.93. This isn’t a huge difference in price.
- Ironically, cigars in the $25.00 to $59.99 range were some of the lower scoring cigars.
- On the other hand, cigars over $60.00 were the highest scoring range for 2024.
