Today, we are reviewing the Popeyes Pickle Glaze Chicken Sandwich. This sandwich is part of a pickle-themed, limited-edition menu introduced by Popeyes on April 1, 2025. These items include:
- Pickle Glaze Sandwich
- Pickle Glaze Bone-In Wings
- Pickle Chips
- Pickle Lemonade (pickle juice x lemonade)
The pickle glaze items are pretty much exactly as described. It’s a glaze sauce flavored with pickle and Popeyes Louisiana spices.
The official name for Popeyes is Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen by Alvin Copeland. It was founded in Arabi, Louisiana, as Chicken on the Run. Today, it is headquartered in Miami and has over 3,700 stores. When the restaurant was renamed Popeyes, Copeland said the name was in honor of Gene Hackman’s Popeye Doyle character in The French Connection, not the Popeye cartoon. Eventually, the chain sponsored the Popeye & Pals show in New Orleans, ultimately leading to a 35-year licensing agreement with King Features Syndicate, which owned the rights to the Popeye character. That agreement ended in 2012.

The Experience
For this assessment, the scoring was similar to what we did with the Popeyes Spicy Flounder Sandwich.
- Fish: 4 points
- Bun: 2 points
- Condiments: 2 points
- Intangibles: 2 points
Chicken
Popeyes’ Pickle Glaze Sandwich features a crispy, hand-battered white meat chicken that has many positive aspects. The thicker cut of chicken provides a hearty bite, and the hand-batter contributes a delightful crispiness that enhances the overall experience. Although the chicken was tender, I found it to be slightly drier than I would have liked. However, it’s not overly dry, which is a plus. With a few tweaks to the moisture level, this could be an outstanding sandwich.
Score: 2.5 points out of 4.0 points
Bun
The bun used on the Pickle Glaze Sandwich is a Brioche bun. It’s similar to the one I had with the Spicy Flounder Sandwich. The inside of the bun has a pillowy texture, and there is a slightly browned exterior. It’s also lightly toasted and buttered. It’s pretty much your average bun here.
Score: 1.0 points out of 2.0 points
Condiments
There are two main condiments on the Pickle Glaze Chicken Sandwich. First is the barrel-cured pickles. They had a nice dill component to them. Two slices seemed perfect for this sandwich.
The second is a pickle glaze, which is a combination of brine and dill pickle flavorings, along with Louisiana spices. I found the combination worked quite well here. In some of the advertisements, the Pickle Glazed Chicken Sandwich appeared to be drenched in the glaze. This was not the case with the two sandwiches I had. I think it worked well here. Several other photos of the Pickle Glaze Sandwich, taken by consumers and reviewers, indicated that this sandwich is usually light on the glaze.

Intangibles
One of the big questions I often ponder about sandwiches is whether the whole is more enjoyable than the sum of its individual ingredients. That was definitely true for the Pickle Glazed Chicken sandwich. The special glaze sauce really enhances the flavor of the crispy chicken, which also has a nice hint of spice to it.
The sizable chicken filet on the Pickle Glazed Chicken sandwich is quite filling. Fortunately, it’s not a messy sandwich because the glaze is applied just right. Most importantly, all the flavors work well together.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT
I’ve come across some comments saying that the spice level of Popeyes’ Pickle Glaze Chicken sandwich is somewhere between their Classic and Spicy Chicken sandwiches. I agree with those assessments. The pickle glaze adds a unique flavor that I’ve never tasted before, making it a fun twist on their regular offerings. Despite that, I believe that going light on the glaze was crucial to making this sandwich successful. At the same time, while the flavor is good and I enjoyed it, I didn’t feel it exceeded the experience of the Spicy Chicken sandwich. Nevertheless, there was enough going on for me to revisit this sandwich from time to time, if available.
