#22: CLE Corojo |
The selection for #22 Cigar on the Cigar of the Year Countdown is the CLE Corojo. This was a cigar that flew under the radar quite a bit. The CLE Corojo was one of two initial blends released by former Camacho president, Christian Eiroa’s new company – CLE.
The CLE Corojo marks the first appearance on the countdown for CLE Cigars. In addition, this cigar marks the first published puro to qualify for the 2012 Countdown. In the case of the CLE Corojo, this is a Honduran puro – meaning the wrapper, binder, and filler are all from Honduras. It is no surprise that Eiroa launched a Corojo as this was considered a trademark tobacco he worked with while at Camacho Cigars. On an appearance on the December 1st edition Kiss My Ash Radio, Eiroa said he is still leveraging the Camacho factory to make this cigar using the team he was familiar with while at Camacho.
Eiroa hasn’t missed a beat when it comes to making a fine Corojo cigar – and this one ranks among his finest. The flavor profile consists of notes of citrus, natural tobacco, caramel, oak, and baker’s spice. The flavors are medium to full in body and are balanced perfectly by medium to full strength. The team making this cigar has not missed a beat either – making a cigar that burns and draws flawlessly.
